Textile Pest Control

Textile pests, such as carpet beetles and clothes moths, can cause significant damage to clothing, rugs, and other household textiles. They thrive especially in quiet, warm environments. Early intervention is important to prevent larger infestations.

On the subpages, you can read more about the most common textile pests:

  • Brown carpet beetle – A dark brown or nearly black beetle. Its larva is light brown, long, and hairy, with a distinctive tail-like tuft of bristles at the end.

  • Varied carpet beetle – A dark brown beetle with light-colored spots on its wing covers. In Finland, it has become increasingly common, especially in urban areas and apartment buildings.

  • Fur beetle – A small, round beetle with a light “band” or mottled pattern on its back. Adults live outdoors and feed on pollen, but the larvae can nest indoors.

  • Clothes moth – A pale, small moth (about 1 cm) that moves slowly and avoids light. The actual damage is caused by the larvae, which live and grow in animal-based materials – especially wool, fur, and feathers.
